Alexandrian Quartet Set

The four parts of the tetralogy novel Alexandrian Quartet are aptly named after their main characters. The reader can view the same events – the life of Egyptian Alexandria before and during World War II – through the eyes of... completely different people. The sunset of colonialism, the anti-British uprising, political and private life – events and people become much clearer when seen from different angles. The author himself called the tetralogy an experiment in exploring the continuum and subject-object relationships based on the material of contemporary love. In the first three books: Justine, Balthazar, and Mountolive – these relationships gradually unfold in all their complexity and confusion, united by time and place. In the fourth book – Clea – the author ties together the plot lines and provides the opportunity to trace the development of relationships and fates over time, concluding the narrative.
