Matilda is a small and very smart girl. Very, very smart. She learned to read by herself at three years old and loves books more than anything in the world. And not just any children's fairy tales, but Dickens, Hemingway,... Steinbeck, and Kipling. Unfortunately, this is not at all to the taste of her parents, two rather unpleasant individuals who would prefer that she watched, like them, silly shows on television.
