The writer Eleanor Porter 1868–1920 is known for immortalizing the main character of her eponymous book from 1913, Pollyanna. The girl who invented the game of gladness was enthusiastically welcomed by readers and critics. This book remains a bestseller to this day. Little Pollyanna, who has lost her parents, goes to live with her Aunt Polly, and brings her own changes to the small town: she teaches the townspeople the game of gladness — the ability to find something good and to rejoice in the simple and ordinary, even in the worst events, which we often fail to notice in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
