This edition includes diaries and letters, as well as documentary materials that illuminate the life and creative path of M. A. Bulgakov from 1914 to 1940. Essentially, it is nothing more than his life description, compiled from diaries and epistolary heritage. Among the recipients of Bulgakov's letters are V. V. Veresaev, E. I. Zamyatin, A. M. Gorky, K. S. Stanislavsky, I. V. Stalin. These documents, not intended by the author for publication, recorded various life situations and, arranged chronologically, reflect with remarkable objectivity the key moments in the fate and creative biography. In addition, they contain invaluable information about Bulgakov's personal qualities and circle of interests, his attitude towards the events occurring in Russia, his closest environment, the literary and theatrical world.
