The hero of the third book – Mountolive – becomes... the secondary character Balthazar, the diplomat Mountolive, who has a rather curious attitude towards the Egyptian conspiracy. The further fates of the characters from the first three books of the tetralogy are narrated in the fourth and final part – Clea, – the action of which takes place during World War II. The text of this edition has been revised by the translator V. Mikhailin and supplemented with comments.
