A young aspiring novelist gets a job as a "murder consultant." His task is to plan a murder so that it looks like a suicide, an accident, or death from natural causes. Then, his action plans are passed on to a hitman who carries them out—only the "consultant" doesn’t know about it.

At the request of his clients, the protagonist conducts thorough research and planning to ensure that the scheduled murders appear natural, creating "reasons" that are convincing enough to lead crime scene investigators, detectives, and even forensic experts to conclude that there is no criminal activity causing the death. His "action plans," resembling a crime thriller, are handed over to a hired killer, a colleague at work who is unknown to the protagonist, for execution in exchange for money from their clients.
