While traveling in the East, Hercule Poirot stopped in Jerusalem. One evening, standing by the open window of his hotel room, he suddenly heard a phrase spoken somewhere nearby: "You do understand that she needs to be killed,... right?" At first, the detective did not attach any importance to these words. But soon he had to remember them when his hotel neighbor, a wealthy elderly American woman traveling with her family – daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren – died unexpectedly. Poirot learns that in life the deceased, a former prison warden, was a true family tyrant. The great detective is puzzled about who killed the old woman. And is it even murder...?
