Scriptures into Russian began; prior to that, Russian-speaking readers could familiarize themselves with the biblical text in the more difficult-to-understand Church Slavonic. Several decades later, this work was completed, and a complete translation of the Bible for home reading was published with the blessing of the Holy Synod — which is why it is now called the Synodal Bible. Today, the Synodal translation is considered classical: it is the version most commonly printed when publishing the Bible in Russian. This edition presents the text of the New Testament in the Synodal translation.
