Having read many chivalric novels and feeling somewhat fatigued from insufficient time spent outdoors, a poor nobleman at the sunset of his life decides to become a wandering knight and replicate the feats of his favorite literary heroes. Acquiring rusty... armor and mounting a lame horse, the hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha, accompanied by his loyal servant Sancho Panza, sets off on his journey. However, reality differs from his fantasies, and the Knight of the Woeful Countenance, as his servant dubbed him, finds himself in absurd situations time and again: he challenges a flock of sheep, frees captured robbers, or suffers defeat in a battle against windmills. Originally conceived as a parody of chivalric novels, "Don Quixote" has been translated into all major languages of the world and included in the "World Library" as the "best book of all time and people." In this edition, "Don Quixote" is presented in the translation by Boris Engelhardt.
