"The Castle" is an unfinished novel by the Austrian writer of Jewish descent Franz Kafka (1883–1924), the story of a man named K. who arrives to work as a land surveyor in a village governed by the Castle, and unsuccessfully... tries to gain access to this Castle. Kafka reflects on the place of the artist in the world, in the state system, on his relationships with the crowd and authority, on the meaning and absurdity of creativity. An appendix to this edition publishes variants of some chapters of the novel and places deleted by the author.
