Penny Lane dreams of an exhibition of her paintings in a famous gallery and of Venice. At night, in her dreams, she strolls through the streets of this beautiful city and rides a gondola, while during the day she returns to her joyless existence: working in a cheap London café and feeling lonely, as she recently broke up with her boyfriend. But Penny's life takes a dramatic turn when she saves a baby whose stroller rolls towards an oncoming train and gets her fifteen minutes of fame. A lady approaches her with an unusual proposal: to substitute for her boss Olivia at events and social receptions, who has fallen into depression after her father's death. It turns out the girls are as alike as two peas in a pod. Now Penny can pay off her student debts, a famous gallery is interested in her works.
