Young Suzanne is forced against her will to take vows and enter a monastery. Due to its pronounced anti-clerical sentiment, the novel "The Nun" was not published during the author's lifetime - the book was released ten years after Diderot's death, in the midst of the French Revolution. The public appreciated the work, and "The Nun" rightly took its place among the best works of the writer. This collection also includes the novels "The Nephew of Rameau" and "Jacques the Fatalist and His Master."
