The bookstore should be cozy and appealing, at least that's how the new director of the "Texts" store, an American who recently moved to the UK, wants to see it. But this turns out to be quite difficult, as something is always amiss in his store, one of a whole chain. First of all, the building is constantly shrouded in thick fog. Every time the staff arrives in the morning, many books are found on the floor, some are torn or soaked with some moisture. The computers malfunction, and at night, even when turned off, they flicker with a strange gray light. Orders disappear. Instead of films on purchased videotapes, shadows depicting ancient battles and sacrifices appear. When a car in the parking lot in front of the store fatally hits one of the saleswomen, the director decides to take harsh measures. An inspection is coming, and he leaves the entire staff on night duty to sift through the inventory and find out who is making a mess in the premises. But strange creatures have already appeared on the surveillance camera screens, translucent but leaving behind slimy traces. And the fog becomes ever more impenetrable, while danger and horror creep ever closer.
