"Domostroy" and "The Honest Mirror of Youth" are the two most famous etiquette and domestic texts in the history of Russian literature, containing advice for all situations in life: what relationships should be like between parents and children, how to... behave in church, how to receive guests, how to behave properly at the table, how to deal with servants, and so on. These textbooks of life wisdom invariably spark reader interest. "Domostroy," created in the 16th century, became a symbol of old Moscow; "The Honest Mirror of Youth" (18th century) depicts social and domestic life in the new, Peter's Russia. They mutually complement and illuminate each other, perfectly tracing the historical path of Russia and the historical experience of past centuries.
