An elderly neighbor approaches Snezhana Mashkovskaya with a strange request: to analyze the contents of a jar containing dried rose hips. Allegedly, someone added something to it so she would sleep more soundly and not hear someone searching her apartment... at night. Snezhana cannot refuse the neighbor, as that would mean admitting that her beloved husband, the investigator, has moved back to his old apartment. Indirectly promising to help, Mashkovskaya hopes that the old woman will forget her frightening fantasies, but the next day she is found dead. Snezhana does not believe it was an unfortunate accident, but who would need to kill a quiet lonely elderly woman and why? And where did the precious items, including a porcelain figurine from Dresden with a special history, go?
