Who does not know the famous traveler Baron Munchausen? Who has not been captivated by his stories into that magical world where the most incredible adventures take place at every turn?
But it turns out that the hero of these extraordinary...
stories, Baron Karl Friedrich Hieronymus Munchausen, actually lived and belonged to an old German noble family. He was a military man, served in the Russian army, and upon returning to his homeland, became famous as a clever storyteller.
It is unknown whether he recorded his stories himself or if someone else did, but in 1781 some of them were published.
And in 1875, the German writer E. Raspe processed and published them. The fame of the famous baron became so great that many began to retell his stories in their own way, but the author of the book is generally considered to be E. Raspe.
The present book includes those stories that the baron himself narrated in a friendly circle.
