The book by Shvarts and Pakhomov was the first not only in the biographies of the writer and the artist, but it also turned out to be a breakthrough in book design, a model for subsequent children's publishing experiments. The... influence of V. Lebedev on Pakhomov is not surprising, considering that Alexei Fyodorovich was his student at the Petrograd VHUTEAMAS (1920–1921). [...] The entire book "Camp" is built on two colors, and its pages resemble reproductions of paintings. The reason is lithographic printing, with impressions made from stones, luxuriously conveying the texture of the material, the liveliness of the grain of the lithographic stone. The red and black fills harmonize well with the techniques reminiscent of dry brushwork. The artist's secret also lies in the method of conveying space he found: the flat composition solutions hark back to ancient Russian iconographic frames, to the "festivals" with shutters. Pakhomov saw and deeply loved the old icon since childhood.
