A Yankee in King Arthur's Court

Mark Twain's satirical novel «A Yankee in King Arthur's Court» — one of the first literary works about time travel. The novel, published in 1889, tells the adventures of an enterprising American from Connecticut in the late 19th century who inexplicably finds himself in England in the 6th century. During a fight, the hero is struck on the head with a crowbar and loses consciousness. Upon awakening, he discovers that he has been transported to the era of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, — but he does not despair. The undaunted yankee easily manages to take his place at the royal court as a wizard, pushing aside the old Merlin. Using his knowledge of science, technology, and history, he actively introduces all layers of medieval society to the benefits of civilization: electricity, the telegraph, newspapers, and much more. Luck accompanies the yankee in everything, however, his "magical" activities turn the church and the knighthood against him, and they declare war on him... The book is illustrated by the works of Sergey Yarovoy. Sergey Yarovoy is an illustrator, a member of the International Federation of Artists and the Creative Union of Professional Artists. He graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute. He has illustrated more than 60 children's and teenage books. The artist's works are in private collections in Russia, the USA, Austria, Germany, and Brazil. Sergey Yarovoy regularly participates in Russian and international exhibitions.
