Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is primarily known as the creator of the Sherlock Holmes series, but he also wrote fascinating stories about the exploits of Brigadier Gerard, a dashing hussar of the Napoleonic army. Étienne Gerard — the best cavalryman and "the foremost saber in all ten hussar regiments" (at least he is convinced of this himself).
