Twelve-year-old Mila is sure that she would make an excellent terrier. She is just as perceptive, quick, and loyal. Moreover, she unravels mysteries wonderfully, no worse than Poirot himself. Now she faces the most difficult puzzle: where did her father's best friend disappear to the day before they flew to visit him?

The heroes embark on a road trip across the state of New York and, as in any true journey, they not only move through space but also gradually become different themselves - wiser, older, more complex, and perhaps a little sadder.
