Roly-Poly Toy

The roly-poly is a traditional toy for toddlers who have learned to sit. The roly-poly is great because it is a self-teaching toy: the child does not need adult help to play with it. When the child touches the roly-poly, it wobbles slightly; if they touch it harder, it wobbles more; if they push it really hard, it seems to fall but then gets back up. This way, the child discovers how to play with the roly-poly. The purpose of the roly-poly: The roly-poly toy develops the child's fine motor skills, enriches their vocabulary with words that denote parts of the face and body, and gives an understanding of the predictability of actions.
