Name for the Captain

On the shore of the Indian Ocean lives a Russian family. A few years ago, the Kotovs moved from a small Siberian town to Sri Lanka to fulfill their dream – to open a hotel by the sea. But what does their son, Velik (Velimir) Kotov, dream of? More than anything in the world, he wants to become a brave captain. But can a captain have such a funny name as Velik?

His doubts will be dispelled by the friendship with retired captain Kolotov, the lighthouse keeper, who will teach Velik that what matters most in a person is not the name, but the character. And Velik has a true captain's character. He is not afraid of difficulties and is always ready to acknowledge his mistakes. Moreover, Velik has learned Sinhala and found friends among the local boys. Together with the fisherman Madu, he saved turtle hatchlings from poachers, revived the elephant Lila and became an indispensable assistant at the lighthouse. But Velik could not even imagine what gift he would receive on his birthday...
