Firearms

In the celebrated novel by Miguel de Cervantes, his hero, the wandering knight Don Quixote of La Mancha, bitterly said: "Blessed were those times when the terrifying fury of devilish firearms did not yet exist, and I firmly believe that whoever invented them is now paying in hell for his satanic invention."
No one knows exactly when firearms were invented. In any case, it is reliably known that 658 years ago, during the Hundred Years' War, cannons were already firing on the battlefield. Probably, soon after, handheld firearms appeared as well. And although bows and crossbows remained on the scene for a long time, the future belonged to firearms.
