December 1944. The Netherlands has been under occupation for five years. Michiel is sixteen, and he lives in constant fear. Recently, all the men were hanged from lampposts in a neighboring village. And yesterday, the neighbors were arrested. Everyone has... a relative forced to hide from the Nazis, or a friend in a concentration camp. Only the mayor, Michiel's father, is holding back the brutality of the occupiers with all his strength.
And now - a friend's request, caught in the Gestapo's clutches.
