Nim lives on the most beautiful island that can be found in the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean. Here is her home, her loyal friends Shelly and Fred. And of course Jack, Nim's father. He is a scientist and occasionally goes out on the yacht into the ocean for a couple of days to study plankton. On such days, Nim quite calmly stays alone on the island – after all, she is capable of handling all the usual island tasks. She can chop coconuts from the palm with a machete, start a fire with a piece of glass, tend to the garden, and take readings from the weather instruments. Besides the palms, hut, and garden, Nim has email to communicate with the outside world and a cell phone to stay in touch with her father.
But one day, Jack didn’t call from the yacht. And not the next day either. Nim begins to be overwhelmed by bad feelings, which she manages to distract from by starting a correspondence with a famous writer, a true hero and brave traveler, Alex Rover! And when trouble seems very close – all her friends come to Nim’s aid. And it doesn’t matter that Fred is a spiky iguana, Shelly is a sea lion, and Alex Rover is not an adventurer at all and is, in fact, a woman.
