The Mysterious Island

Five brave northerners escape from the city of Richmond, taken by the southerners, in a hot air balloon. After a terrible storm, they find themselves on the shore of an uninhabited island. Life on the island becomes a true test of their ingenuity and courage. They not only manage to survive but also create a small civilization: they raise livestock, grow wheat from a single grain, manufacture tools and household items in their small factories, and even establish a real telegraph. But the island turns out to be not so uninhabited — a mysterious figure repeatedly saves the heroes of the novel from imminent death... The book presents a shortened version of the novel.
