The Day of the Egyptian Boy

The story by professor-historian Milica Mathieu will transport the modern reader to Ancient Egypt and tell about the life of a little boy, Seti, from a wealthy family. Many, many centuries ago, he lived in a clay house, learned counting and writing on shards and papyrus, feared being late for school, and listened to the stories of the elders. But the main lesson will be taught to him by two new friends, Mes and Mai, whose families are poor, and whose labor is hard. Seti will learn how difficult life is for slaves, soldiers, and craftsmen, and how powerless they are before the rich pharaohs and priests. How can everyone be made happy? This book will teach a child to value human labor, empathize with others, think and reason about the unacceptability of one person's superiority over another. Justice, honesty, nobility, and mercy – qualities that the little hero demonstrates on the pages of the book – must be instilled in a child from the earliest childhood.
