Dance. A Choreographic Dictionary with Stories and Tasks
Where does «just movement» end and where does dance begin? A sacred ritual, a secular entertainment, a stage art, a street performance — all of this is dance. Even a fall can be part of dance… In the illustrated dictionary by...
Ines Fonseca Santos and Andre Letria, names, facts, and concepts from the world of dance are collected. Choreographic terms came to us from France, where ballet was actively developed. The most famous ballet troupe is originally from Russia, which is why the book includes so many familiar names. Each culture has its own dance tradition, its own styles, its own icons. Moving through time and space, we will turn to the origins of dance, witness significant events, meet dancers and choreographers who changed our view of dance, master the notation of dance, and even try a few steps. This is not just an encyclopedic dictionary, but a true creative laboratory: each reader can master the language of dance by performing unusual tasks. What kind? The most diverse: you can splash in puddles, play with light, try on masks, create costumes — and, of course, dance!
1. A unique format: encyclopedic articles + practical tasks for a creative laboratory that can be organized at home, at school, in summer camp, or with friends. 2. 215 concepts, names, and titles from the world of dance: directions and styles, significant events, and, of course, people — dancers and choreographers who changed our view of dance. 3. The «Russian trace» is present on almost every page: Vaganova, «The Rite of Spring» and much more. 4. The «Oscar-winning» novelty from one of the most well-known contemporary Portuguese book artists Andre Letria — included in the list of the best projects at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (BRAW Amazing Bookshelf 2023). 5. The book will appeal to children, teenagers, and adults, becoming an excellent assistant for preparing to attend a ballet and the best gift for those who are passionate about, interested in, and engaged in dance.
