Pavel Bazhov (1879 - 1950) - Russian writer, ethnographer, folklorist, storyteller. He gained fame as the author of original Ural tales. Bazhov is one of the few writers of the 20th century honored with his own Bazhov encyclopedia. Bazhov's legacy includes 56 tales, which have been translated into 100 languages of the world. For a long time, Bazhov collected and reworked the legends of the Urals. The life and work of the Ural masters of stonecutting and gem cutting intertwines with fictional fantastic characters: the Mistress of the Copper Mountain, the Great Snake, and his daughters the Serpents, the Firebird-Spring, and others. The tales have become a literary symbol of the wealth and traditions of the Urals, and the surprisingly melodic, unique language (as if it were the speech of Ural miners) tells of a wonderful land and mountain craftsmen. The book also includes the tales "The Mountain Master," "The Malachite Box," "The Mistress of the Copper Mountain," "A Fragile Twig."
