Savitri

Before you is a translation of the poem that sheds light on the true purpose of Man. Its author is the great Indian sage, philosopher, yogi Aurobindo Ghosh, who later came to be known as Sri Aurobindo. The poem is based on a legend told in the 'Mahabharata' - the great Indian epic. The narrative begins with the story of the Yogi Ashwapati - the father of Savitri, and then transitions to the journey that Savitri undertook, descending into the netherworld of the god Yama, to rescue her beloved Satyavan.
