This book is an attempt to understand and perhaps recall a little:
• how religious thinking was structured among the people of antiquity;
• what they thought about everyday ethics, the structure of the world and themselves, about what is proper and improper, about happiness, fate, and death;
• what relationships, connections, and feelings linked them with gods, monsters, and all kinds of wondrous and terrifying forces of the cosmos.
This is an attempt to discern their worldview and to try to construct another version of the flourishing, decline, and — who knows — possible revival of ancient polytheism.
Moreover, it is an attempt to compare them with us, the present-day, and to think about what we distinctly differ in and what we might be strongly similar in.
