The book is the first-ever translation of the Svachchhanda Tantra (previously this text had not been translated into any language). The Svachchhanda Tantra is named after Svachchhanda Bhairava – one of the most venerated forms of Shiva in Kashmiri Shaivism. In its content, it presents a sacred text narrating the esoteric and ritual practices of North Indian tantric schools. Among the topics raised by Svachchhanda are: mantra yoga, practices of initiation and internal sacrifice, contemplation of cosmic manifestation and various aspects of time. The edition is supplemented with a preface and a modern commentary based on the commentary "Udyota," created in the mid-11th century by the famous master of Kashmiri Shaivism Ksemaraja.
