Red Whale

Eleven-year-old Delfina is spending her vacation in a village by the ocean, but even the beautiful landscapes do not relieve her sadness. It has been over a year since her mother has been living separately, and her father has a new girlfriend with whom the girl has not yet found common ground. Delfina feels that she is somehow different from her peers, and it seems that adults do not know everything about her origins. Could the mysterious Marina – an elderly woman who each time swims astonishingly far into the ocean – provide her with an answer? Or could the story of a boy named Eliaz, who lived a hundred years ago and went to sea as a cabin boy at about Delfina's age, help her in some way?

The book by French writer Michelle Monmoulin "Red Whale" is a lyrical tale about finding oneself and love for the ocean. It features both attentive descriptions of the complex feelings of a bewildered teenager and unconventional adventures.
