Tales

“Tales” — one of the most famous works of Mikhail Eugraphovich Saltykov-Shchedrin. His tales are not just fantasy, but a profound allegory on the structure of Russian society. In them, he addresses various spheres of life: political, cultural, moral, personal, to concepts such as virtue and vice, conscience, betrayal, truth and falsehood. And although Saltykov considers them in the context of the world contemporary to him, his vivid, biting, and painfully recognizable stories remain relevant today, prompting reflection on moral values, civic responsibility, and human dignity.

Selected tales are included in the school literature curriculum, and some tales have been adapted into animated films.
