Baltic Sky

The novel by Nikolai Korneyevich Chukovsky tells about the pilots of the squadron that participated in the defense of Leningrad, about the residents of the besieged city. Teacher Maria Sergeevna, Senior Lieutenant Serov, Major Lunin, the commander of the Baltic Fleet squadron Captain Rasokhin, young Leningraders Sonya and Slava - the intertwining of their fates, the tragic and happy twists of circumstance, separations and meetings form the basis of the narrative about one of the most terrible and majestic pages of our national history - the blockade of Leningrad.

The military routine of the pilots and the difficult life of the city residents are depicted vividly and accurately, without excessive pathos, which perhaps makes the book so sincere and convincing.

First published in 1955, Nikolai Chukovsky's novel has been reissued multiple times, and a film of the same name was made based on it.

The illustrations by Nikolai Lavrukhin, accompanying the text, are executed with amazing, almost documentary historical accuracy.
