The Mistress of the Copper Mountain

Pavel Petrovich Bazhov (1879-1950) was born in the Urals, in the factory settlement of Sysert, in the family of a mining master. He spent his childhood among diggers and masters who extracted and processed malachite and mica. After graduating from seminary, he taught Russian language in Yekaterinburg, traveled extensively throughout the Urals, collecting folk tales, legends, and fairy tales. It was on this material that the famous Bazhov's tales were created, works in which truth and fiction are intertwined.
