Bebop

Christian Guyi is a famous French writer. In his youth, he became interested in jazz and tried to pursue a career as a saxophonist. He then switched to psychoanalysis and even opened his own practice. He turned to literature in the 1980s and from his very first publications attracted attention with his unusual writing style.

The author balances between the expressed thought and the hidden one, the completed and the unfinished phrase, the close-ups and the details. He cinematically changes angles, creating a jazz rhythm in his narrative and diving into a light absurdity.

His texts seem sentimentally naïve, but behind the apparent simplicity lies a piercing sadness. The main themes of his stories are loneliness, the sense of emptiness, and impossible love. The leitmotif is music, which the characters compose, play, discuss, or simply listen to.
