Alexander Pushkin (1799 — 1837) — a great Russian poet, playwright, and prose writer, the founder of the Russian literary language. Even during his lifetime, contemporaries called him the greatest national poet.

The main character of the novel "Dubrovsky, Vladimir Dubrovsky, — a noble robber. Fate forced him to take the path of crime: he was unjustly convicted by the authorities for arson and murder.
