The Book of the Dead: Collection

This collection publishes ancient texts dedicated to the afterlife of human consciousness or soul: «The Tibetan Book of the Dead», or «Bardo Thodol», describing the intermediate states — bardo, through which, according to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, human consciousness passes from the beginning of the physical dying process until reincarnation; «The Book of the Dead of the Maya Indians» — an excerpt from the Maya epic «Popol Vuh», telling about the journey of divine twins to the underworld — Xibalba; as well as «The Trials of the Blessed Theodora's Soul», included in the Byzantine «Life of St. Basil the New», an apocryphal text that narrates the trials — obstacles faced by Theodora's soul on the way to God's throne.
