The Childhood of Tyoma

N. G. Garin-Mikhaylovsky (1852–1906) was one of the first Russian writers to embark on writing a truly honest story about childhood and growing up.

In telling the story of Tyoma Kartashev, he recalls his own childhood. Tyoma cannot be called a role model or a notorious hooligan. Like many boys, Tyoma grows, learns, and makes mistakes. In this simple-hearted boy, each of us can easily recognize ourselves.
