The Main Thing is to Live!

The story takes place in besieged Leningrad during 1941-1942. Six-year-old Lyalkа and her cat Vaska together experience the horrors of war. The girl shares her last piece of bread with her fluffy friend, and Vaska helps Lyalkа's family survive the first, harshest winter of the blockade. Based on the memories of eyewitnesses, diaries, and archival materials, the story immerses the reader in the atmosphere of that time and reminds us of the value of friendship and hope even in the most terrifying conditions.
