Chekhov graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University and began practicing medicine. He started writing during his student years - in 1880, a story and a humorous piece written by him were published in the magazine "Strekoza". In 1890, A.P. Chekhov went to Sakhalin - the island of tsarist hard labor and exile, to study the history and way of life of convicts. In 1896, the writer finished working on the play "Uncle Vanya", which made a revolution in the drama of that time. In total, over 25 years of creativity, A.P. Chekhov created more than 300 various works, many of which became classics of world literature. The basis for the plot of the story "Kash-tanka" (1887) was a story that happened with the trainer Vladimir Durov. He found Kash-tanka and told A.P. Chekhov about her. The author seemingly looks at the world through her eyes, feels her fears and joys, sees her dreams. According to the writer, there are no limits to a dog's loyalty and devotion - Kash-tanka, performing in the circus, rushes to her former owner, whom she lost at the beginning of the story. And even though he sometimes fed her poorly and shouted at her, Kash-tanka still loved him and missed him.
