Let's Get Acquainted

The famous folk artist Nikolai Zhukov (1908-1973) admitted that he could never imagine the fullness of life's happiness without children and did not believe in the empty phrases of bohemian artists who preached solitude and freedom for the success of... their art. When the artist's firstborn arrived, Nikolai Nikolaevich spent all his free minutes enthusiastically drawing the little girl. Then a second child was born, followed by a third... He drew each one in various candid situations. The drawings turned out light, sincere, and infinitely touching. In 1958, a book titled «Let's Get Acquainted» was published by Detgiz, containing, like a cozy family album, «childlike» drawings by Nikolai Zhukov and poems-inscriptions by the poet Vladimir Thomsen. That book served as the basis for this publication.
