The book is dedicated to the Bolshoi Theatre, without which it is impossible to imagine Moscow, Russia, our culture. The whole world knows what its majestic building looks like, and many have been fortunate enough to attend performances staged on... its renowned stage. The authors of the book vividly and interestingly recount how the history of the Bolshoi Theatre began, how many fires and reconstructions it endured, and how the existing appearance of the building on Theatre Square gradually took shape. The fate of the theatre after the revolution is discussed, as well as the most famous opera and ballet performances. And, of course, readers will be interested in detailed information about what was done during the grand reconstruction from 2005 to 2011. Separate chapters are dedicated to "Light in the Theatre," "Sound in the Theatre," and even "Cats in the Bolshoi." The concluding part, "Risen from the Ruins," reminds us of how much the Bolshoi Theatre had to endure to once again open its doors to the audience.
