The Teaching of Vladimir Monomakh

Vladimir Monomakh is one of the most significant figures in ancient Russian history. A prominent statesman, legislator, military leader… And at the same time – a writer, the author of the famous complex of works known as "The Teaching of... Vladimir Monomakh".

"The Teaching" is a moral instruction for the princely descendants, which remains relevant even today. But in addition, it is Monomakh's account of his life, about what was considered the main princely affairs in his time: military campaigns and hunting. To this, the ancient scribe added a letter from Monomakh, written during a difficult moment in his life, and a prayer, composed, most likely, by the theologian Kirill of Turov.

In addition to the works of Vladimir Monomakh and detailed commentaries on them, the collection includes articles dedicated to both the personality of the prince himself and his writings. The unique illustrative series of the book is comprised of miniatures from ancient Russian manuscripts and works by the best artists.
