Riki was the most peace-loving yard dog in the world. He never hunted anyone and never chased after anyone. Except perhaps his own tail, but even that was just a little bit. The neighborhood dogs didn't like him much –...
they considered Riki a coward, teased him by calling him a scaredy-cat, and didn't want to associate with him.
Riki's quiet life flowed along its course until one day a stray cat named Miki the Brawler appeared in it. Throughout his life, Miki had lived on the streets. But eventually, he got tired of wandering and decided to settle down in one place. The yard where Riki lived caught his eye immediately.
Miki the Brawler was the complete opposite of Riki: this cat knew how to defend himself and was ready to jump into a fight at any moment. Nevertheless, Miki and Riki became friends, and this friendship helped them discover new positive qualities within themselves. Together, they triumphed over the shameless mice that had been taking too many liberties.
Thanks to the cat, Riki the Peaceful believed in his own strength and learned to stand up for his rights, while Miki the Brawler became much more tolerant of others' weaknesses and learned to keep himself in check.
Funny and dynamic illustrations for this kind story about an unusual friendship were drawn by Croatian artist Davor Šunk. He is known in his homeland as an active promoter of comic culture and as a recipient of several national book awards.
