Instructions on Nibbana

The book "Instructions on Nibbana" was written by the Venerable Mahathera Lady Sayadaw, who is known as one of the most outstanding Buddhist teachers of his time, and is dedicated to discussing the nature of Nibbana - the complete and ultimate cessation of suffering in cyclic existence.
Lady Sayadaw emphasizes throughout that Nibbana is not just the highest reality, but something with immense power. This is the power that can eradicate the contaminations of our mind and grant us the highest peace and happiness. The power of Nibbana manifests in both relative and absolute aspects. On a relative level, Nibbana provides temporary liberation from the influence of affections and the suffering associated with them, which is most vividly expressed in meditative absorptions (jhanas). On the absolute level, Nibbana acts irreversibly, destroying the contaminations of our mind once and for all. Thus, having eradicated the view of self in those who have entered the stream, the power of Nibbana liberates them forever from the threat of rebirth in sorrowful realms and guarantees final liberation in no more than seven rebirths.
Lady Sayadaw pays special attention to discussing the false views about the nature of Nibbana, which can become serious obstacles on the Path to Liberation.
