Segismundo Garcia is an unfortunate salesman, convinced he has found the business of his life: selling budget bunkers for the poor. He promises salvation from the impending global collapse to anyone who can afford it.

However, Segismundo himself is going through... tough times—both personally and financially. He has complicated relationships with his son and father.

Three generations of con artists are obsessed with the idea of social ascent but repeatedly face failure.

The action of the novel unfolds over the course of one day, during which we follow Segismundo on his business trips and quests for the "treasure" that could solve all family problems. In his journey, he encounters various people whose views and actions, challenging his pessimism and sarcasm, prove that a better world is still possible.
