By day, Barney is an ordinary boy who is coping with the loss of his beloved grandfather. By night, he becomes the superhero Brownie, who fears nothing. Armed with a brush and paint, he sets out on a mission. Soon, other superheroes join him—Dark and Ultramarine. Meanwhile, strange things are happening in the village: someone is painting the bicycles of local bullies, exclusively in brown and black.
At the same time, a story unfolds about Barney's farewell to his grandfather, whose ghost he meets one summer night on a stone by the roadside. These encounters allow the boy to ask important questions and cope with his loss more easily.
This is a book about friendship, courage, and the loss of a loved one. And also about what to do when your superhero abilities are no longer enough.
