Dao is simply the ultimate principle that connects all existence into a whole. Existence is not chaos, without a doubt, but cosmos. It possesses a remarkable order, and this order is called Dao. Dao simply means the harmony of the whole. There is no temple of Dao, no statues, no prayers, no priests, no rituals - and that’s wonderful! Therefore, I do not call it either a doctrine or a religion. It is pure understanding. You can refer to it as Dharma, as Buddha called Dao. In English, the word that best suits Dao is Nature with a capital N.
